A.R.T.-Active Release Technique (Back to Top)

art"A.R.T." is patented, state of the art soft tissue system that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpel tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fascitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow a just a few of the many conditions that are resolved quickly and permanently with A.R.T. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they often result from injury to over-used muscles.

How do Overuse Injuries Occur?

Over-used muscles and other soft tissues change in three important ways:
  • Acute injuries (pulls, tears, collisions, etc.)
  • Accumulation of small tears (micro-trauma)
  • Not getting enough oxygen (hypoxia)
Each of these factors can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue in the affected area. This scar tissue binds up and ties down tissue that need to move freely. As scar tissue builds up, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons causes tendonitis, and nerves can become trapped. This can cause reduced ranges of motion, loss of strength, and pain. If a nerve is trapped you may also feel tingling, numbness, and weakness.

What is an A.R.T. Treatment Like?

Every A.R.T. session is actually a combination of examination and treatment. The A.R.T. provider uses his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness, and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments, and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements. These treatment protocols - over 500 of them- are unique to A.R.T. They allow providers to identify and correct the specific problems that are affecting each individual patient. A.R.T is not a cookie-cutter approach. Chiropractic (Back to Top)

chiroChiropractic, although often misunderstood, is about helping people live healthier, fuller lives.  While typically thought of as "bone doctors", chiropractors actually focus on the nervous system, particularly the spine, as the key to a healthy and pain-free body.  The basis of our work focuses on correcting joint restrictions (joints that have lack of movement) and improving the functioning of the entire nervous system.
In order to reduce pain and dramatically improve quality of life, chiropractors restore joint movement and re-establish proper biomechanics throughout the body.
Once the correct mechanics have been restored, the body has the ability to function optimally.  Chiropractic work is widely researched, practiced, and respected, and has been shown to help a wide range of ailments.

Deep Tissue Massage (Back to Top)

flameDeep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don’t get too uncomfortable. Keep in mind that soreness is pretty common after the treatment, and that plenty of water should be ingested to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins that will have been released from the deep tissue during the session.

Cold Laser Therapy (Back to Top)

CLTThe term Cold Laser Therapy refers to the use of low-intensity or low levels of laser light. Proponents claim that cold laser therapy can reduce pain and inflammation. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) considers these laser devices investigational (experimental), and allows them to be used in studies based on some evidence that they may provide temporary pain relief. Cold laser treatment assists in decreasing pain, inflammation, and wound healing. These lasers are used directly on or over the affected area.

Functional Analysis (Back to Top)

hollieFunctional analysis is performed by observation of an activity of a patient.  This can include an sport specific movement or even assessment of an ergonomic setup at a workplace.  The goal is to target the abnormal biomechanical movement pattern that may be associated with the pain of the patient.  This is a key component to restoration of normal function because it can be a limiting factor in getting a patient to their optimal health.

Custom Orthotics (Back to Top)

bodfyOrthotics are orthopedic devices that are used to alter or modify foot function and are designed to treat, adjust, and support various biomechanical foot disorders.  Custom orthotics are prepared from a computerized dynamic foot analysis to meet the specific needs of a particular individual.   A poor foot foundation can lead to various issues in the body from knee, hip, shoulder problems.  The goal of the orthotics are to restore the proper foot strike which, from a kinetic chain standpoint, restores optimal function throughout the body.
