Active Release Techniques, "A.R.T." is patented, state of the art soft tissue system that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpel tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fascitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow a just a few of the many conditions that are resolved quickly and permanently with A.R.T. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they often result from injury to over-used muscles.
How do Overuse Injuries Occur?
Over-used muscles and other soft tissues change in three important ways:
- Acute injuries (pulls, tears, collisions, etc.)
- Accumulation of small tears (micro-trauma)
- Not getting enough oxygen (hypoxia)
Each of these factors can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue in the affected area. This scar tissue binds up and ties down tissue that need to move freely. As scar tissue builds up, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons causes tendonitis, and nerves can become trapped. This can cause reduced ranges of motion, loss of strength, and pain. If a nerve is trapped you may also feel tingling, numbness, and weakness.
What is an A.R.T. Treatment Like?
Every A.R.T. session is actually a combination of examination and treatment. The A.R.T. provider uses his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness, and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments, and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements. These treatment protocols - over 500 of them- are unique to A.R.T. They allow providers to identify and correct the specific problems that are affecting each individual patient. A.R.T is not a cookie-cutter approach. To read more about A.R.T. click the logo above.
Graston is a form of IASTM which stands for "Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization". The doctors at Ultimate Health use soft tissue instrumentation to break up scar tissue and release fascial adhesions that may be causing biomchanical restrictions which leads to overuse injuries. Clinically, it has been found to help speed recovery from chronic musculoskeletal pain syndromes and has also been shown to work extremely well on acute musculoskeletal/fascial conditions. Fascia is a sheet or band of fibrous connective tissue enveloping, separating, or binding together muscles, organs, and other soft structures of the body. The fascia, along with the muscles, can develop scar tissue, adhesions, and/or trigger points. To learn more about Graston click on the logo above.
Kinesiological Taping has taken the Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine world by storm. This amazing taping method was developed by Dr. Kenzo Kase over 25 years ago in Japan. Since then, kinesiological taping has become the gold standard for therapeutic and rehabilitative taping. This proprietary method of taping uses a uniquely designed and patented tape for treatment of various conditions. It focuses on decreasing inflammation, spasm, swelling, and pain. It also helps to increase function and lymphatic drainage, and facilitate muscle activation. All of the doctors at ULTIMATE HEALTH are kinesiological taping practitioners.
Functional Dry Needling- Myofascial trigger point dry needling (MFTrPDN) is a treatment to restore proper function to abnormally behaving muscles. Nodules, or knots, and tight bands that develop in the muscle create localized pain or send pain signals to other locations. The affected muscles become locked and cannot function normally, which restricts movement and causes chronic pain.
Nodules develop from overuse, trauma, poor posture, lack of exercise, sleep disturbances, vitamin deficiencies, joint arthritis or nerves compressed at the spine and other locations. These painful areas contain biochemicals that cause pain to the local nerves and decreased oxygen flow, or ischemia, which causes the muscle fibers to lock.
Of the many treatment methods applied to painful muscles, none are quite as effective – fast acting and long lasting – as MFTrPDN. It short-circuits the vicious pain cycle in a very direct way that other methods cannot accomplish. The muscle contracture releases to its normal length, circulation is improved, swelling receded and the pain-causing biochemicals disperse, eliminating their noxious effect on local nerves.
Dry needling utilizes sterile, thin monofilament needles, and relief is often rapid with a reduction in pain and improved function. All of the doctors at ULTIMATE HEALTH are Functinal Dry Needlig Practitioners certified by Dr. David Fiskin at the Dry Needling Institute in Rockville, Maryland.
The term Cold Laser Therapy refers to the use of low-intensity or low levels of laser light. Proponents claim that cold laser therapy can reduce pain and inflammation. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) considers these laser devices investigational (experimental), and allows them to be used in studies based on some evidence that they may provide temporary pain relief. Cold laser treatment assists in decreasing pain, inflammation, and wound healing. These lasers are used directly on or over the affected area.
At Ultimate Health - A Complete Wellness Center, we teach our patients how to perform special "blueprint" exercises which can help strengthen and correct the irregularities in their body which may be causing pain. Many of these corrective exercises can actually be performed in the comfort of your own home to help improve the effectiveness of your chiropractic care and spinal correction plan. In addition to skeletal misalignment, you may be experiencing pain that is caused by muscles and connective tissues which are out of their proper place. Other types of pain such as back pain, neck pain, and headaches are caused by muscles and tissues that are being used improperly, causing injuries over time. In each case, targeted corrective exercises and stretches from our experienced chiropractor will help you feel good while also helping your body achieve balance and health.
Many of our patients come to see our chiropractor to address a specific pain symptom such as back pain, neck pain or headaches. While our chiropractor will address each patient's specific condition with chiropractic care, we often find it helpful to "coach" our patients towards achieving a healthier lifestyle. For example, there may be certain activities that you should avoid or do differently to prevent yourself from unintentionally aggravating your particular health challenges. The goal of including lifestyle advice with a chiropractic care plan is to help each and every patient achieve the fulfilling and happy lifestyle they deserve, one that is full of the activities that are enjoyed most. We recognize that every single one of our patients is a whole person, and we use our expertise to help them reach total health and wellness.

Massage therapy does more than make you feel good, it can actually help your body achieve balance and health. Massage therapy offers a natural treatment approach which actually relieves musculoskeletal pain for many patients. Our chiropractic office provides specific massage and muscular therapy that is complimentary to their chiropractic care. Each massage therapy plan is tailored to meet the patient's unique pain condition or injury. The benefits of massage therapy may include the increase of blood circulation, a localized reduction in swelling and the relaxation of muscles. Spinal & Postural Screenings
There is a saying that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Your spinal health is no exception. Posture and spinal screenings by a trained and experienced chiropractor such as Dr. Davidson, Dr. Cesari and Dr. Acosta can help reveal important health information, unlocking the door to improved health and well-being. In order to help the Bel Air community, we provide screenings at area malls, community events, health fairs and places of employment. Biomechanicsal analysis is performed by observation of an activity of a patient. This can be done by the Ultimate Health doctors through observation or through two different systems- Zenolink and Functional Movement Screen. The goal is to target the abnormal biomechanical movement pattern or "weak link" that may be associated with the pain of the patient. If this key component is missed, it can be a limiting factor recovery and getting the patient back to their activity.
Orthotics are orthopedic devices that are used to alter or modify foot function and are designed to treat, adjust, and support various biomechanical foot disorders. Custom orthotics are prepared from a computerized dynamic foot analysis to meet the specific needs of a particular individual. A poor foot foundation can lead to various issues in the body from knee, hip, shoulder problems. The goal of the orthotics are to restore the proper foot strike which, from a kinetic chain standpoint, restores optimal function throughout the body.
